Procedure of Publication

1. Preparation

We request from you

  •  the text document as a PDF file, that meets our technical requirements!
    •  The cover sheet must contain the date of the defence and the names of the refereers.
      • It is not permitted to use the HU logo in the publication of your dissertation.
      • Depending on the defense date, please specify the president as follows:
        • until 31.12.2021: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst, Präsidentin der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
        • between 01.01.2022 - 30.09.2022: Prof. Dr. Peter Frensch, (komm.) Präsident der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
        • from 01.10.2022: Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal, Präsidentin der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
    • Personal data such as date and place of birth, curriculum vitae and signatures must not be included in the entire document.
    •  The text document must contain an English and a German summary. Please do not use machine translation services.
  •  Texts for an English and German summary to be added to the metadata.
    •  The summaries may contain a maximum of 2000 characters each including spaces.
    • Only the special characters of the keyboard may be included. Formatting is not possible.
    • These summaries do not have to match the summaries in the PDF document.
    • Please do not submit automatic translations. Please do not use machine translation services.
  • In each case at least 4 keywords in German and English.

2. Submission on the edoc-Server

  • Register or login on the edoc server (see Submission)!
  • Choose "Submit a new item to this collection"!
  • Fill the form completely!
  • Load the PDF file and if necessary other files on the server! Take advantage of the possibility to archive and publish research data!
  • Agree to the terms of use!

You can interrupt the process at any time and resume it later. When you have completed the submission, your input and the PDF file will be checked. Should we notice any deficiencies, you will be notified and given the opportunity to correct. If everything is correct, you will receive a notification and information about further processing.

3. Conclusion of contract and publication certificate

The Hochschulschriftenstelle needs from you

  • 2 signed paper copies of the publishing agreement
    Please note that only publishing agreements signed by hand will be accepted. Agreements with digital or scanned signatures will not be accepted.
  • 1 or 4 paper copies depending on dissertation regulations. Please check the website of the Hochschulschriftenstelle for information on the requirements of the paper copies. Please do not have made the paper copy until we have reviewed and accepted your PDF file, since the paper copy must match the accepted PDF file exactly. If you have any questions, please contact the colleagues of the Hochschulschriftenstelle.

You can

  • make an appointment in "Hochschulschriftenstelle" to hand over personally everything and to receive publication certificate and your publishing license copy, or
  • get in touch with "Hochschulschriftenstelle" by telephone or by e-mail to regulate all matters per mail.

After completing the electronic publication, the Hochschulschriftenstelle will forward the publication certificate to your dean's office.
